What make us different

Braces are braces!….. Right?….. Wrong!  There is a difference between a dentist who does orthodontics, such as a family dentist or children’s dentist, and a specialist in orthodontics.   While it is legal for any dentist to perform orthodontic services, non-orthodontists have not had the additional 2-3 years of specialty training that all dentists must have in order to legally and ethically call themselves an orthodontist.

Dr. Rosenberg – a native Washingtonian received his undergraduate training at the University of Maryland.  He then went on to Georgetown University, graduating Cum Laude with his doctorate in Dentistry.  He was also elected to Apha Sigma Nu – the Jesuit Honor Society.  Two years later, Dr. Rosenberg received his graduate degree in Orthodontics from Northwestern University.

He began practicing in the Northern Virginia area, where he has been in practice for over 30 years.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.  A member of 8 national and local professional organizations; has been voted top area othodontist by his peers, – and Washingtonian Magazine for 12 straight years; has lectured on orthodontics throughout the United States; and is currenty attending professor of orthodontics at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center/Washington Hospital Center department of orthodontics and oral surgery.

Dr. Rosenberg takes pride in his involvement in the Northern Virginia community.  He has sponsored over 50 local area teams.  Dr. Rosenberg has helped the fund raising efforts of innumerable school organizations, community groups and individuals over the years.  He was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Catholic Archdiocese of Northern Virginia for his fund-raising in behalf of selected Catholic schools.

In addition to his pro bono work as a professor of orthodontics, he has given beautiful smiles to many children over the years whose families couldn’t afford orthodontic treatment.

Perhaps his best endorsement comes from the family members of over 25 area dentists he has treated.

Dr. Rosenberg lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Dana.  His interests are golf, exercising, and teaching.  He has 5 children Jamie, Zachary, Angelo, Michele and Antonio.

While no orthodontist can ethically claim to be “better” than others our patients can be assured of the following differences:

  • We do not use headgear and have not for 15 years even though more than 50% of orthodontists still do.  Dr. Rosenberg utilizes appliances that work from inside the mouth to quickly and comfortably move teeth.
  • Our office never recycles braces.  Bluntly put, many orthodontists save significant sums of money each year by removing braces from their patients and sending them to a “recycling” company.  These used braces are then placed in other patients’ mouths over and over.  Besides the fact that these braces become less accurate with each use, it is a practice that our office finds revolting.
  • We do not have hidden charges in our office.  Many offices charge separately for x-rays, retainers, emergency visits, broken brackets (braces) and wires, and missed or cancelled appointments.  You fee is totally inclusive.
  • Dr. Rosenberg’s goal is to create exquisite, natural looking smiles and to make sure that the jaw joint and the bite is correct.
  • Your safety is of utmost importance in our orthodontic office.  Not only do we use hospital-grade sterilization machines but these machines are monitored by a company monthly to ensure they always work properly.
  • We maintain a position that being on-time for your appointments is critical.  We make every effort to respect your valuable time.
  • Appointment intervals can vary from every 4 to 12 weeks.

We have been extremely successful at achieving the following goals:

  • Natural looking straight teeth
  • Beautiful smiles
  • Reduce appearance-consciousness during critical developmental years
  • Possible increase in self-confidence and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Guide facial growth for a more attractive profile
  • Better lip closure
  • Healthy TMJs (jaw joints) and relief of pain for most of our TMJ patients
  • Better function and the comfort of a proper bite

Smiles Are Not Created The Same In all Orthodontic Offices!

Dr. Rosenberg was one of the first orthodontists in the US to extend time intervals between patient visits.  He routinely utilizes the very latest technology and treatment methods to insure that you or your child will experience:

  • Less time away from school or work
  • Fewer appointments
  • Shorter time in the dental chair
  • Faster, more comfortable tooth movement

This differs from orthodontists who do not use these high-tech appliances.  In such offices where this technology is not utilized, often you will need to be seen much more frequently (every 4-6 weeks) causing not only scheduling inconveniences to you but also significantly more discomfort when moving teeth.

Other Differentiating Factors in Our Office

  • We maintain a position that being on-time for your appointment is critical.  We make every effort to respect your valuable time.
  • Our staff sparkles with enthusiasm and caring attitude toward our patients.
  • We are always available for emergency appointments even on non-patient days and evenings through our emergency care system.

  • Our communication with your family dentist is ongoing so that we can work together to attain what is best for you.

  • Over 35% of our patients are adults.  It is not unusual for our office to see many patients in their 30s, 40s, 50s 60s and even 70s.  As long as bone and gum tissues are healthy it is never too late to obtain beautiful cosmetic results.
  • Dr. Rosenberg has lectured all over the US on topics from Surgical Orthodontics to Esthetic Treatment of children and adults.
  • Dr. Rosenberg has treated family members of over 25 dentists.
  • Dr. Rosenberg is a professor of Orthodontics at Washington Hospital Center; Department of Oral Surgery and Orthodontics at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center.  He is one of very few in the US entrusted with the education of the next generation of our future orthodontic specialists.
  • The quality of care is Dr. Rosenberg’s first consideration in his office.  He uses the most advanced techniques and the best materials.  He never cuts corners in order to save money and he never will.

Phase I and Phase II Treatment

Dr. Rosenberg specializes in 2 phase treatment and has developed a highly successful treatment program.  When a child is seen by age 7, many wonderful things can be accomplished!  Extraction of permanent teeth can be avoided in the vast majority of cases.  This allows us to achieve excellent profiles, avoiding flattened profiles, thinning of the lips, and premature aging.

Our methods of treatment can often prevent and correct:

  • Severe Crowding
  • Impacted  cuspids
  • Severe overjet and overbite
  • Underbites
  • Narrow dental arches, which can often result in a very narrow adult smile arc
  • Cross bites, which should be corrected as early as possible
  • Strain upon closing the lips
  • 80% reduction in the need to extract permanent teeth
  • Harmful oral habits

Other benefits of early or phased treatment include:

  • Reduce appearance-consciousness during critical developmental years
  • Possible increase in self-confidence and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Guide facial growth for a more attractive profile
  • Reduce the need to extract permanent teeth
  • Better lip closure
  • Improved speech/swallowing
  • Aid in optimizing other dental treatment

Phase I usually takes 12-18 months.   Your child’s smile will be beautiful and he or she will wear a small retainer at night.  For the next 1 to 3 years we will monitor further growth and development and eruption of all of the permanent teeth.  He or she will be seen (free of charge) every 4 months.  When all of the permanent teeth have erupted we will begin phase II.  Phase II consists of finishing your child’s treatment.  This usually entails placing braces on all permanent teeth.  Phase II is often simple and relatively short, as most severe problems have already been improved or corrected.  The key to successful early treatment is to use your child’s growth potential to improve or correct problems rather than waiting until growth is complete.

It is important to understand that the goal of phase I, or early treatment, is not to eliminate the need for a second phase of full treatment.  By taking advantage of your child’s growth and development you can be sure that your child will have received the very best care available anywhere in the world.

POG program (Pre-Orthodontic Guidance program)

While the American Association of Orthodontists recommends screening all children at age 7, the majority do not need a first phase of treatment.  If no early treatment is recommend Dr. Rosenberg will place your child in our pre-orthodontic Guidance program (POG).  Dr. Rosenberg feels it is important to see him or her every 4 months during this time period.  This allows us to begin any necessary treatment at the most advantageous time.   ALL VISITS, X-RAYS, PHOTOGRAPHS, ETC. ARE FREE OF CHARGE.
